Joanne E. Powers

Joanne joined Birch Hill upon its founding in 2007. Previously, she worked at Seaward Management as a Portfolio Assistant for Gary Mikula. Prior to that, she held the same title at Eaton Vance Management and Webster Management, where she also worked with Gary. Altogether, she has more than 40 years of experience in the investment management business.

Joanne attended the Katharine Gibbs School in Boston. She lives in West Medford with her husband and two daughters.

Q: What are your role and responsibilities at Birch Hill?
A: I assist Gary with the accounts he manages. My responsibilities vary daily. I may be doing wire transfers, check requests, money links, opening account paperwork, stock gifts, coordinating tax payments, and various correspondences to clients. I’m also a Notary Public, so I’m often called upon to notarize documents for our clients.

Q: What do you think Birch Hill’s best qualities are?
A: We are a team and all work very well together.

Q: What about what you do brings you the most personal satisfaction?
A: I enjoy talking with the clients. Some I have worked with for many, many years, and it’s so nice to hear their voices while taking care of their requests.

Q: When you’re not working, how do you spend your time?
A: I love to spend time with my family and friends. I’m also a big sports fan and enjoy cheering on Boston’s teams in my downtime, especially the Celtics!

Q: If you weren’t at Birch Hill, what do you think you’d be doing?
A: I’d be traveling to places I’ve never been before.
