NOV 2020

  • Jonathan O. Eng recently joined Birch Hill as Investment Operations Manager. Jon comes to Birch Hill from Boston Trust Walden Company where we was a Senior Operations Analyst. Prior to Boston Trust, Jon worked at State Street Bank & Trust, F-Squared Investments and Capital One Financial. A graduate of the University of Michigan where he studied economics, Jon also has a JD from the University of Maine, School of Law. Jon is a member of The Exchange Network (formerly Advent Users Group) and a big fan of Michigan football.

AUG 2020

  • FA (Financial Advisor) ranked Birch Hill Investment Advisors as the 193rd largest Registered Investment Advisor (RIA) for 2020. RIAs were ranked by Assets Under Management as of 12/31/2019. Financial Advisor publishes a monthly magazine used by advisors, financial planners and broker dealers. View more details on the ranking.

JUL 2020

  • The Boston Business Journal (BBJ) ranked Birch Hill among the Top 25 Largest Independent Investment Advisers in Massachusetts. Advisers are ranked by assets under management (AUM) as of June 2020. This is the second consecutive year BBJ included Birch Hill in the top 25 of Massachusetts Independent Advisors.

    The “Largest Independent Investment Advisers In Mass” is an independent listing produced by the Boston Business Journal (July 2020). The BBJ list is based on data gathered from firms, regulatory disclosures, and BBJ’s research. The 2020 listing ranked each firm by AUM as of 6/1/2020. Neither Birch Hill nor our employees pay a fee to BBJ in exchange for inclusion in the list.

JUN 2020

  • Christopher P. Mikus has been promoted to Assistant Vice President. Chris joined Birch Hill in 2012 as an Associate in our operations group. He was promoted to a Senior Associate in 2016 and Assistant Portfolio Manager in 2018. Chris received his BA in History from Kenyon College and earned his MBA from Boston University. He is a Chartered Financial Analyst. Chris’ duties include securities research and assisting in the management of portfolios and client relationships.

  • Gary Mikula, Rob O’Neil and Tim Malloy have been named Boston Five Star Wealth Managers for 2020. This is the eighth year Gary has been named a Five Star Wealth Manager and the first year for Rob and Tim. OCT 2019

  • Brett A. Mirliani, CFA, CFP®, CPWA® earned the Certified Private Wealth Advisor® certification, which is an advanced professional certification for advisors who provide the breadth of specialized skills required to meet the needs of high-net-worth clients. To earn certification, CPWA professionals must meet an experience requirement, successfully complete coursework in advanced wealth management strategies, and pass a comprehensive examination covering 11 core topics, including applied behavioral finance, charitable giving, estate planning, and wealth transfer. Brett joined Birch Hill in 2015. He is a Managing Director and provides portfolio management and financial advice to high net worth individuals.
  • Birch Hill was a proud Sponsor of Boston Health Care for the Homeless Program’s Annual Emerging Leaders’ Fall Soirée, an event recognizing the extraordinary contributions made by corporations and young professionals to improve the lives of Greater Boston’s most vulnerable citizens. Birch Hill’s Christopher Mikus attended this year’s event.

AUG 2019

  • Christopher P. Mikus successfully completed the third and final exam required to receive the Chartered Financial Analyst® (CFA®) designation. The CFA program is a globally recognized standard for measuring the competence and integrity of financial analysts. In addition to other requirements, candidates must pass three six-hour examinations covering areas of study including accounting, economics, ethics, money management and security analysis. Chris received his Bachelor’s degree from Kenyon College and his Master of Business Administration degree from Boston University. Chris joined Birch Hill in 2012 as an Associate. His current position is Assistant Portfolio Manager. Chris’ additional responsibilities include investment research.

  • Birch Hill was a Respite Caregiver Sponsor of Boston Health Care for the Homeless Program’s 10th annual Medicine that Matters Gala. BHCHP is dedicated to providing or assuring access to the highest quality healthcare for Boston’s homeless men, women, and children. Gary MikulaRob O’Neil and Brett Mirliani attended the event.
  • Birch Hill was a sponsor of Silver Lining Mentoring’s 10th Annual Match Gala. Silver Lining Mentoring’s programs address the two greatest needs for youth in foster care: long term relationships and life skills development. Gary Mikula and Chris Mikus were in attendance.
  • Birch Hill proudly supported Crossroads as a Build Sponsor of the 11th Annual Urban Campfire event. Through its summer camps and mentorship program, Crossroads helps empower youth to unlock their potential and positively impact the world. Crossroads has been providing life-changing experiences to at-risk youth and teens for over 80 years. Tom Reilly has been a Trustee of Crossroads since 1992 and currently serves on the Finance Committee and chairs the Investment Committee. Paul Donovan and Adam Desjardins were in attendance.
  • Birch Hill helped sponsor the Friends of the Children-Boston “2019 Friend Raiser.” Friends of the Children is dedicated to breaking the cycle of generational poverty through salaried, professional mentoring. These mentors, called “Friends,” are provided from kindergarten through high school graduation. Gary Mikula attended the event.

  • Birch Hill hosted a Leadership Roundtable luncheon with C5 Leaders from Crossroads.  Crossroads C5 Leaders is a five-year summer and school-year program that helps teen leaders develop their leadership style and expand their academic, career and civic horizons.  During the luncheon, Tom ReillyBrett MirlianiJessica Truong, and Kerley Hairston shared their financial industry career experiences with the C5 Leaders group.

  • Paul J. Donovan, CFP® recently joined Birch Hill as Chief Administrative Officer. Paul was previously a Senior Vice President at Boston Private Bank where he spent most of his tenure as Director of Wealth Services & Compliance. Prior to Boston Private, Paul held positions at Woodstock Corporation and Mellon Trust/The Boston Company. Paul holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics & Finance from Bentley College, and an MBA from Suffolk University. Paul is a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ practitioner.

  • G. Bowen Cook (“Bo”), CFA has been promoted to Assistant Vice President. Bo joined Birch Hill in 2013 as an Associate and was promoted to a Research Analyst in 2016. His duties have included complex administrative projects, mutual fund analysis, and individual stock research. Bo’s impact on our investment process will continue to expand as he assumes additional stock research responsibilities. Bo received his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Northeastern University with dual concentrations in Finance and Accounting. Bo is a Chartered Financial Analyst.
  • Christopher P. Mikus has been promoted to Assistant Portfolio Manager. Chris joined Birch Hill in 2012 as an Associate in our operations group. He was promoted to a Senior Associate in 2016. Chris’s duties have included securities trading, performance measurement, and more advanced operations activities. Chris’s new responsibilities will include securities research and assisting with portfolio management. Chris received his BA in History from Kenyon College. Chris earned his MBA from Boston University. He is currently a Chartered Financial Analyst level III candidate.

  • Birch Hill was again a Leadership Sponsor of All the Way Home, an evening to benefit St. Francis House. The organization’s mission is to rebuild lives by providing refuge and pathways to stability for adults experiencing homelessness and poverty. Tom Reilly made the opening remarks, welcoming the 500 attendees to this event that raised close to $900,000. Tom has been a Trustee since 2010 and is on the Finance and Development Committees.
  • Birch Hill was a proud Sponsor of Boston Health Care for the Homeless Program’s Annual Emerging Leaders’ Fall Soirée. BHCHP aims to provide or assure access to the highest quality health care for all homeless individuals and families in the greater Boston area. Birch Hill’s Adam Desjardins, Christopher Mikus and Bo Cook were all in attendance.

  • Financial Advisor Magazine released their RIA Survey & Ranking for 2018.  Birch Hill was listed as one of the largest Registered Investment Advisory firms in the U.S., based on assets under management as of 12/31/17.  Financial Advisor Magazine has been listed as the #1 publication targeting professional advisors for the past four years (according to Erdos & Morgan’s Financial Advisor Media Usage and Outlook Study), and currently reaches 110,000 qualified readers each month according to its website.

  • Brett Mirliani, CFA, CFP® was promoted to the position of Managing Director. Brett joined Birch Hill in 2015. His responsibilities include new business development, marketing, portfolio management services, and providing financial advice to clients. Brett earned his BA from St. Lawrence University. He is a Chartered Financial Analyst and a Certified Financial Planner™ practitioner.
  • We are excited to welcome Sean Kelly to Birch Hill as a full time Associate. In the summer of 2017, Sean was an Operations Intern at Birch Hill. Previously, he was a Compliance Intern at Seaward Management. Sean received his BSBA in Business Administration and Management with dual minors in Computer Science and Finance from High Point University.

Kerley has over 25 years of experience in the financial services industry, including positions with MassDevelopment, Wellington Management and US Trust.   • Catherine M. Kennedy joined Birch Hill as a Managing Director. Kate has over 20 years of experience in the financial services industry, including roles in portfolio management, financial counseling, equity and fixed income trading, and portfolio administration. Kate was most recently a Managing Director at Seaward Management, where she was responsible for portfolio management, as well as equity and fixed income trading. Kate received her B.A. from Boston College and a Certificate in Trust and Estate Administration from The New England School of Banking at Williams College. She received her Certificate in Financial Planning from Boston University and is a Certified Financial Planner™ practitioner.
  • Tim Malloy, CFP® was promoted to the position of Managing Director. Tim joined Birch Hill in 2013. His responsibilities include portfolio management services, providing financial advice to clients, and originating research and investment recommendations. Tim earned his BS from Catholic University and an MBA from Boston College. In 2017, Tim became a Certified Financial Planner™ practitioner.

  • This year marks Birch Hill’s 10th anniversary, and we have been celebrating with a series of events acknowledging the hard work and dedication of our employees. The last of these events, an Urban Adventure Quest through the streets of Boston, took place this month. Experiences such as a wine tasting, in-chair massages, Plant Nite, an escape room, and a dinner with spouses, all led to terrific bonding opportunities in celebration of our firm’s first decade.
  • Tim Malloy successfully completed the CFP® exam. Attaining the Certified Financial Planner designation is a significant professional accomplishment requiring many long hours of study. Certified Financial Planners meet rigorous professional standards and have agreed to adhere to the principles of integrity, objectivity, competence, fairness, confidentiality, professionalism and diligence when dealing with clients. Tim received his BS from Catholic University and an MBA from Boston College. Tim joined Birch Hill in August 2013. His responsibilities include portfolio management services, providing financial advice to clients, and originating research and investment recommendations.

  • Tom Reilly received the national Community Service Award at the Invest in Others annual gala. Tom was honored for his work with Crossroads, which will receive a $20,000 donation from the Invest in Others Charitable Foundation. The Invest in Others Awards program recognizes the charitable work of financial advisors and financial services firms in communities across the country and around the world. The program received hundreds of nominations this year and finalists were selected based on their leadership, dedication, contribution, inspiration, and impact on a non-profit and the community it serves.
