For the second year in a row, AdvisoryHQ has listed Birch Hill as one of the Top 10 Financial Advisors in Boston.
This year marks Birch Hill’s 10th anniversary, and we have been celebrating with a series of events acknowledging the hard work and dedication of our employees. The last of these events, an Urban Adventure Quest through the streets of Boston, took place this month. Experiences such as a wine tasting, in-chair massages, Plant Nite, an escape room, and a dinner with spouses, all led to terrific bonding opportunities in celebration of our firm’s first decade.
Tim Malloy successfully completed the CFP® exam. Attaining the Certified Financial Planner designation is a significant professional accomplishment requiring many long hours of study. Certified Financial Planners meet rigorous professional standards and have agreed to adhere to the principles of integrity, objectivity, competence, fairness, confidentiality, professionalism and diligence when dealing with clients. Tim received his BS from Catholic University and an MBA from Boston College. Tim joined Birch Hill in August 2013. His responsibilities include portfolio management services, providing financial advice to clients, and originating research and investment recommendations.
Birch Hill was a proud Sponsor of Boston Health Care for the Homeless Program’s Annual Emerging Leaders’ Fall Soirée, an event recognizing the extraordinary contributions made by corporations and young professionals to improve the lives of Greater Boston’s most vulnerable citizens. Rob O’Neil and Brett Mirliani attended the event.
Birch Hill was again a Leadership Sponsor of All the Way Home, an evening to benefit St. Francis House. The organization’s mission is to rebuild lives by providing refuge and pathways to stability for adults experiencing homelessness and poverty. Tom Reilly has been a Trustee since 2010 and is on the Finance and Development Committees. Tom, Tim Malloy, and their spouses attended the event.
Tom Reilly received the national Community Service Award at the Invest in Others annual gala. Tom was honored for his work with Crossroads, which will receive a $20,000 donation from the Invest in Others Charitable Foundation. The Invest in Others Awards program recognizes the charitable work of financial advisors and financial services firms in communities across the country and around the world. The program received hundreds of nominations this year and finalists were selected based on their leadership, dedication, contribution, inspiration, and impact on a non-profit and the community it serves. After ten years of growth at 24 Federal Street, Birch Hill moved to the seventh floor of One International Place. Our new office features additional meeting rooms and improved workspace. The International Place complex offers our employees many amenities such as restaurants, coffee shops, a bank, a dry cleaner, and a fitness center. Birch Hill was a Respite Caregiver Sponsor of Boston Health Care for the Homeless Program’s 2017 Medicine That Matters Gala. Over 12,000 homeless men, women, and children are cared for by Boston Health Care for the Homeless Program each year. Gary Mikula, Rob O’Neil and Brett Mirliani attended the event.
Birch Hill was a Silver Sponsor of Silver Lining Mentoring’s 8th Annual Match Gala. Silver Lining Mentoring’s mission is to empower youth in foster care to flourish through committed mentoring relationships and the development of essential life skills. Following a multi-year tradition, Birch Hill helped sponsor the Friends of the Children-Boston “2017 Friend Raiser”. The annual event is a major revenue source for the organization. Friends of the Children is a revolutionary mentoring organization which fosters high academic achievement and strong character development of children from at-risk and underserved communities. Gary Mikula has been a Director of the organization for twelve years and currently serves as its Treasurer.
Birch Hill continued its support of Crossroads For Kids as a Lantern Sponsor of the Urban Campfire Event. Crossroads has been providing life-changing experiences to at-risk youth and teens for almost 80 years. Children start as summer campers in their early elementary school years and with mentoring and year-round support move through their teen years to graduation and often college. At every turn, Crossroads strives to provide these deserving young people the support to help them make the right decisions that lead to fulfilling lives. Tom Reilly has been a Trustee since 1992 and currently serves on the Finance Committee and chairs the Investment Committee.

Adam J. Desjardins successfully completed the third and final exam required to receive the Chartered Financial Analyst® (CFA®) designation. The CFA program is a globally recognized standard for measuring the competence and integrity of financial analysts. In addition to other requirements, candidates must pass three six-hour examinations covering areas of study including accounting, economics, ethics, money management and security analysis. Adam received his BA in Economics from California State University San Marcos and his MBA from Boston College. Adam joined Birch Hill in July 2007 and has been a Research Analyst since 2012.
G. Bo received his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Northeastern University. Bo joined Birch Hill in July 2013 as an Associate. His current responsibilities include mutual fund analysis and researching individual equities.
Christopher P. Mikus recently received his Master of Business Administration degree at Boston University Questrom School of Business. Chris previously received his Bachelor’s degree in History from Kenyon College. He joined Birch Hill in 2012 and currently works as an Associate. Chris is primarily responsible for securities trading, performance measurement, and operations.
Birch Hill’s office closed early on Friday, July 8th so that staff and spouses could attend a local performance of Cirque du Soleil’s Kurios: Cabinet of Curiosities. Based in Montreal, Canada, Cirque du Soleil is a contemporary circus act featuring acrobatics. The outing was a perfect way for Birch Hill employees to celebrate the beginning of our tenth year.
Brett Mirliani joined the Boston Estate Planning Council Sponsorship Committee for fiscal 2016-2017. The Sponsorship Committee solicits member and non-member firms for annual sponsorship packages and support for the Annual Gala. The Boston Estate Planning Council is an association organized to provide educational programs and networking opportunities for estate planning professionals in the community.

Brett A. Mirliani joined Birch Hill as Vice President. Brett has twenty years of experience in the financial services industry, including roles in business development, security analysis, portfolio management, and providing financial advice to individuals. Brett was focused on business development at Granite Harbor Asset Management and Pinnacle Equity Solutions, and equity analysis at Massachusetts Financial Services (MFS) and Manning & Napier Advisors. He has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from St. Lawrence University, and is a CFA Charterholder and CFP® Practitioner. Brett lives with his wife, Kristin, and three children in Canton, Ma. We are delighted to have Brett as part of our team.
